a very good article... its true that the oil prices are going to go up .. and surely the use of renewables are going to soar... particularly in the western part of teh world..

what is going to happen is

new rules on the energy efficiency will push more companies on energy savings and usage of energy efficient components.. this will reduce green house emissions and usage of oil..

main concentration will be on the oil which i smixed up with sand..
the growing technology willalso find much efficient way to extract that..we do have those reserves as equal to teh available reserves,..

so the oil is not going to go so early as expected...
surly RE is the future but still an infant.. for much efficient use atleast we shoud wait till 2030 or more

RE were predicted to hit much earlier but still they are in the begining stage.. it will take more time.. the soverheated and overhyped articles are misguiding rest of the world....

Well said. Although the post wasn't meant to be provocative, it was meant to open some eyes. Your comments regarding carbon taxes were also bang on the money. Thanks for your input!

Thank you for upending one of the primary misconceptions of environmentalists. There are a variety of compelling reasons why fossil fuels aren't going to go away any time soon, and you pointed out a few - as the price goes up, exploration increases - the current percentage of all energy coming from fossil fuel sources is overwhelming - nations are unlikely to abandon an industry that so obviously serves their economic interests - populations and energy demand is increasing.

How carbon taxes or carbon credits are applied is where discussion should be focused. We won't stop using fossil fuel, and there is an upper limit to how much it will ever cost since higher prices fuels recovery of marginal stocks, such as the heavy oil you allude to - at least 2.0 TRILLION barrels of recoverable oil!
